Come and join us for a beautiful Norwegian meal beside the Oslo Fjord.

We will be sending out more details regarding the venue in the next week...however this is a day not to be missed  - so mark it in your diaries.  This luncheon marks the end of our official ICON year where we will say goodbye to each other whilst we head off to different locations around the world to holiday or see our extended families. The luncheon will consist of two courses for 330 NOK and ICON will be donating a welcome glass of bubbly!

Fancy a Trip to Malta?

Our PR Convenor Alexia Grimes took a trip to Malta earlier in the year and shares some of her
memories.

Magnificent Malta  by Alexia Grimes

Our family enjoys traveling to new places.  We particularly enjoy combining nature, architecture, delicious cuisine and history.  Malta has all of these qualities and more.
Malta is a fascinating place nestled below Italy in the middle of the Mediterranean.   The country is ancient and has a rich cultural heritage.

There are over nine UNESCO World Heritage sites on the island nation.
Malta’s oldest site (Mnajdra Temples) in is on the island of Gozo.  These temples are approximately five thousand years old.  The earliest temple dates from 3600-3200 BC. The temple of Hagar Qim built around 3600 - 3200 BC is situated in Qrendi, Malta and adjacently located to the Mnajdra Temples.  After you visit the temples, be sure to visit the “Azure (blue) Window” in Dwejra, Gozo.
Azure Blue Window
We found that using the public bus system was the best way to tackle travel on the island.  We bought day passes from the bus driver.  We travelled to Gozo via ferry.  In fact, we rode the public bus to the ferry terminal.  Please note that the bus companies operate independently so bus passes bought on the “Big Island” do not work on the Gozo buses.
We consulted with the folk at the Information Office on a daily basis to plan our days.  We had researched what we wanted to see ahead of time, but often the Internet is out of date when you are “on the ground" in the particular country that you are visiting.  Be sure to visit the Information Office.  They are a good resource for getting directions, answering questions about current bus and ferry time schedules, obtaining maps, and getting restaurant referrals.
We really liked Valletta, Malta because we enjoyed the fantastic views and art.  We began our day in Valletta winding through the different streets and shops. (The candy covered almonds are quite good.)  We then rushed to listen to the noon cannon blast at the Saluting Battery.  The cannon is shot daily at noon sharp.  Since it only happens once a day, it’s a pretty special event.  One of our most memorable sites was St. John’s Co-Cathedral.  Two significant works of art by Caravaggio are displayed in St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta.  These paintings are titled The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Jerome Writing.  We also enjoyed visiting the spectacular house, gardens and underground tunnels of Casa Rocca Piccola in Valletta.  Our night viewing of Triton Fountain was especially enjoyable with the sounds of its terrific waterworks and light display.  You should definitely include Valetta on your Malta itinerary.
If you are looking for a place that is sunny, historical and full of natural wonders, then Malta is the place for you.  And did I say that the food is also good?
